AIG 2018 Patient Safety Seminar "Integrating Emergency Preparedness Programs - Promoting patient, family and caregiver safety

Posted 5 months ago by Sherwin Alop

Dear Healthcare Colleague:

AIG Client Risk Solutions invites you to attend the 2018 Patient Safety Seminar in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Please join us on either date below (same program both days) for a discussion of how an organization can assess, implement and maintain an emergency preparedness plan using a holistic approach.

·         Monday August 27 at Hawaii Pacific Health, Kapi’olani Medical Center - Diamond Head Auditorium (NAN INC Auditorium), Second Floor

·         Tuesday August 28 at The Queen’s Health Systems Main Campus, The Queen’s Conference Center Auditorium

Healthcare organizations devote significant resources in planning for a timely and appropriate response to emergency situations, to better protect patients, staff and visitors. In the aftermath of serious events, risk management and safety professionals have taken steps to evaluate what proceeded well during the response, as well as where improvements may be made. In view of the complexities of an emergency response, teams are seeing benefits when the emergency response plan embraces an inclusive “all-hazards” approach.

This seminar program is intended to support the planning for patient care during times of emergency; nursing and other caregivers will find the program relevant. In addition, plant operations, safety officers, risk managers, patient safety officers, emergency preparedness committee members, and facility managers are encouraged to attend, as the content is supportive of the entire team’s effort to address patient, staff, and visitor safety.

Upon completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

·         Discuss strategies to identify the level of threat of the exposure, as well as the risks, related to natural and man-made catastrophes for the healthcare organization (e.g., typhoon, violence), in support of planning for patient care during an actual emergency

·         Discuss strategies for emergency planning and preparedness for the identified threats, in support of safe patient care

·         Discuss cyber risks in a healthcare setting, as well  as strategies to protect patient information

·         Discuss current issues of concern re emergency preparedness in the local environment
